About the role

  • We are seeking a Senior Manager, U.S. Indirect Tax to join our growing Tax Department and help scale our U.S. services and commerce platform.
  • The role reports directly to the Director of Tax.
  • As an early member of the tax team, you will play a critical role in shaping Whop's approach to sales and use taxation across existing and emerging business models.

Responsibilities

  • Own U.S. sales and use tax compliance
  • Lead U.S. sales and use tax compliance across all applicable state and local jurisdictions, including manage nexus analyses, registrations, return filings, reconciliations, and compliance monitoring.
  • Lead Product Taxability Analysis
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Legal teams throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure tax requirements are considered early and implemented effectively.
  • Develop and Document Tax Positions
  • Establish, maintain, and periodically review formal sales and use tax position documentation.
  • Support risk assessments and maintain defensible audit-ready documentation.
  • Lead Audits and Tax Controversy
  • Manage sales and use tax audits, notices, information requests, and voluntary disclosure initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain audit-readiness processes and supporting documentation.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive indirect tax experience in public accounting, industry, government, or a combination thereof, with deep expertise in U.S. sales and use tax.
  • Strong technical knowledge of marketplace facilitator laws, digital product taxation, SaaS taxation, payment processing models, and platform-based business structures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical accuracy and practical business considerations.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Product, Engineering, and Operations teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into actionable business guidance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field.

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting indirect tax matters within a technology, fintech, marketplace, SaaS, or e-commerce environment is strongly preferred.
  • CPA, MST, JD, LL.M., or equivalent advanced tax credentials preferred.

Compensation

  • The base salary for this role is $150,000–$225,000 per year, plus equity, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
