About the role

  • Specific goals, responsibilities, and work activities for this position include:
  • Participate in new student orientation for FYB students.
  • Participates in the campus-wide advising community as the FYB representative, providing input to leadership regarding the development of FYB advising, retention, and student success initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
  • Supervises unit staff and/or plans, organizes, allocates resources, assesses performance, and leads the operational activities of a function within the advising or academic services portfolio, such as program management and/or curriculum management
  • Develops and implements academic advising events such as workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers
  • The FYB program utilizes a first-year student-cohort model for students requiring additional academic support; FYB bolsters its students' future academic achievements through small, face-to-face campus classroom settings taught by teacher-scholar experts utilizing pedagogical best practices.
  • They maintain appropriate confidentiality, updates student advising records, and contribute to the development of academic advising related programming.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree

Nice to have

  • Leadership experience in a student services setting, demonstrating the ability to problem-solve, and work independently managing programs and/or supervising staff.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written correspondence.
  • Familiarity with and effective usage of student services online platforms (e.g., PAWS, NAVIGATE, STELLIC) is considered a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.

Compensation

  • ​​$58,000-$65,000​ (Final salary offer will be determined based on qualifications and experience).
  • One annual (12-month) Academic Staff position for the role of Academic Advising Manager is open in the First-Year Bridge (FYB) program in the College of Letters and Science at UW-Milwaukee (UWM).
