About the role
- Provides advanced evaluation, stabilization, and critical care management for patients aged 0-17 years old, including the extremely preterm infant, requiring transport between facilities.
- Ensures safe and effective care during transport, following established clinical protocols and regulations
- All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health.
Responsibilities
- Exhibits effective communication and intentional compassion, ensuring professional bedside interactions with patients and families, referring physicians, outlying facilities, and EMS support personnel.
- The RT performs airway maintenance including proper use of manual resuscitators, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, intubations, and tracheostomy care.
- Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors mechanical ventilators to include conventional and non-conventional modes of ventilation.
- Independently manages both advanced invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
- Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.
- Ability to perform duties on all transport modalities to include rotor-wing, fixed-wing, or ground ambulance.
- Accurately and completely documents patient care via electronic software.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience - Three (3) years of inpatient and/or ED experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years of Level III NICU and PICU experience.
- Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
- RRT from NBRC (credentials must be maintained)
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and experience with various ventilators including the High Frequency Oscillator Ventilator (HFOV), Jet Ventilator, TXP, and Nitric delivery systems.
- Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
