About the role
- McKesson Canada is seeking a strategic and business-oriented Legal Counsel to provide legal guidance on data governance, privacy, artificial intelligence (AI), digital innovation, and regulatory matters.
- The successful candidate will advise on privacy, data management, AI governance, and healthcare regulatory matters, helping the organization balance legal risk, business objectives, and emerging technology opportunities.

Responsibilities
- Partner with business leaders to develop and implement data strategies that support business objectives while protecting sensitive information.
- Support technology, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives by identifying legal risks and developing practical solutions.
- Draft, review, and maintain policies, governance frameworks, and guidance related to privacy, data management, AI, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Privacy, IT, Digital, Data & Analytics, and business teams on strategic initiatives and risk management activities.
- Support strategic business initiatives, product development, and customer-facing solutions from a legal and regulatory perspective.
- Build strong partnerships across the organization and serve as a trusted legal advisor to business stakeholders.
Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited institution.
- Knowledge of data governance, information management, and data strategy principles.
- Ability to assess legal risk and provide practical, business-focused legal advice.

Skills
- Experience within healthcare, life sciences, pharmacy, retail healthcare, or other regulated industries.
- Experience advising on AI governance, digital transformation, automation, or emerging technologies.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations, professional practice standards, and patient data considerations.
- IAPP certification (CIPP/C, CIPM, CIPT, or equivalent).
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills within complex, matrixed organizations.
- Experience supporting technology contracting and digital platform initiatives.
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered a strong asset.
- Provide legal guidance on AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies, including governance, risk management, and responsible AI use.
