About the role
- The Diabetes Educator educates patients with diabetes on meal planning and general diabetes self-management education.
- They participate in the development and implementation of new/current nutrition and education programs.
- The Diabetes Educator assists in maintaining ADA accreditation and continuous quality improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate/implement other external events as appropriate
- Helps maintain ADA recognition and keep up to date Work closely with the administrative staff on scheduling and other matters Work with vendors for samples and updates
Requirements
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
- Bachelors Degree in an appropriate field (e.g., Nursing, Dietetics-Nutrition, or a biological science) from an accredited college or university.
- Master's Degree in an appropriate field (e.g., Nursing, Dietetics-Nutrition, or a biological science) from an accredited college or university.
Skills
- High School Graduate
- 2 or more years of clinical experience in diabetes and/or nutrition education.
- 2 or more years of clinical experience in an ADA or AADE accredited program.
- CDE certification (NCBDE) required within 12 months of hire.
- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN)
- Single State
- State Board of Nursing in state of practice. OR
- Registered Dietitian (RD)
- Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) in state of practice.
- Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS HS) (Non-Clinical)
- American Heart Association (AHA)
- Skills and duties may vary dependent upon your department or unit.
Compensation
- Create and implement an annual Diabetes Day event Create and implement CQI projects (a requirement of ADA recognition)
