About the role
- We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Rula's Patient Onboarding team.
- This team is focused on driving meaningful impact across the patient funnel.
- Our goal isn't to get patients through the door, but to get them through the right door: an experience that feels fast, trustworthy, and frictionless enough that they actually complete it and get the care they need.
Responsibilities
- In this role, you'll design and deliver reliable, high-quality product experiences that directly impact growth and patient outcomes.
- You'll own projects end-to-end, partnering closely with Product, Design, Analytics, and other engineers to run experiments, ship improvements, and iterate based on real data.
- Our work is experiment-heavy and we build systems for scale by optimizing for performance, correctness, and resilience as the business grows.
- We are dedicated to having a culture of inclusion that will support our employees in feeling safe, seen, heard, and valued.
- Fun team-building activities or in-person gatherings
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering
- Proven history of owning technical initiatives end-to-end, navigating engineering tradeoffs, mapping clear scope/estimates, and proactively highlighting risks early.
- Experience boosting team dynamics through structured code reviews, technical documentation, pairing, and mentoring junior engineers.
- Active proficiency with modern AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate product velocity, alongside an understanding of where these tools present technical risk or require oversight.
- Working hours to support a healthy work-life balance, ensuring you can meet both professional and personal commitments (must be based in United States, currently not hiring in Hawaii)
Nice to have
- While having the preferred qualifications enhances your candidacy, having all of them is not mandatory.
- We encourage all interested applicants to apply, even those who may not meet every preferred requirement.
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical application history.
- Exposure to modern infrastructure practices, cloud environments, CI/CD mechanisms, and observability suites.
- Comfortable operating in an on-call rotation framework and participating in system reliability practices.
- We're serious about your well-being!
- 401(k) plan access: Start saving for your future
- Generous time-off policies: Including 2 company-wide shutdown weeks each year for self-care (for most employees)
Benefits
- Comprehensive health
- Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and FSA/HSA
- Paid parental leave: Available for all parents, including birthing, non-birthing, adopting, and fostering
- Quarterly department stipend: Fun team-building activities or in-person gatherings
- Home office stipend: New hire home office stipend & $50 monthly stipend to help cover internet or cell phone expenses
- Wellness at Rula program: Year-round wellness initiatives and a $50/month wellness stipend
