About the role
- We operate manufacturing facilities in the US, Canada, Germany, China, and Australia, with a team of over 900 employees.
- The HVAC Field Service Technician serves as a key technical representative of Smardt in the field and plays an important role in customer satisfaction, equipment reliability, and service excellence.
- Diagnose and resolve operational issues accurately, safely, and professionally.
Responsibilities
- Perform equipment startups, commissioning, troubleshooting, warranty work, and routine maintenance.
- Maintain availability for on-call emergency service, typically approximately one week every one to two months, or as business needs require.
- Promote service agreements and additional service work to support customer needs and equipment reliability.
- Leverage technical support from head office or other internal resources when needed.
- Ability to work independently in the field while knowing when to escalate or seek additional technical support.

- Perform repetitive movements including bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and twisting.
- Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm motions along with push, pull, grab, pinch, and lift arms above the head.
Requirements
- Travel within the assigned local market and occasionally beyond, as required by business needs.
- Experience with Turbocor and/or magnetic bearing systems is considered a strong asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- EPA certification required where applicable.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
Nice to have
- Chiller service experience strongly preferred.
- Technical school diploma, HVAC certification, or equivalent technical training preferred.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, refrigeration cycles, and related mechanical/electrical components.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex HVAC and chiller operational issues.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, service bulletins, and equipment documentation.
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, meters, gauges, diagnostic tools, and testing equipment.
- Ability to use computer systems, mobile applications, and service software to complete service reports and access technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures related to HVAC service, electrical work, refrigerants, tools, and customer site requirements.
