About the role
- About Redwood Materials Redwood is localizing a global battery supply chain that seamlessly integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling - keeping critical minerals in circulation and driving the energy transition.
- In accordance with California pay transparency laws, the salary range for this position is listed below.
- California Pay Range: $150,000 - $237,500 USD The position is full-time.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to BESS data engineering - building and maintaining telemetry pipelines and stores, and feature ingestion and storage systems for forecasting and optimization
- Design, build, and maintain simulation and training infrastructure - platforms for running and orchestrating simulations at scale
- Develop and operate real-time forecast and optimization workflows, orchestrating pipelines that drive BESS operations
- Support energy market integration, including data ingestion and bid management
- Collaborate across the full stack and across team boundaries to ensure the product system works well as a whole
- Apply AI tools to accelerate development while maintaining high system design quality and code standards
Requirements
- B.S. or advanced degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or another discipline, combined with 2-5 years of experience in software engineering.

- Strong software design instincts - thinks in systems, reasons from first principles, and understands the real-world challenges of building available, reliable, scalable, and secure distributed systems
- Comfortable using AI tools to move faster without letting them erode system design or code quality
- Excellent collaborator - communicates clearly, listens well, and makes the people around them better
- Bias toward action - takes initiative, makes progress in ambiguous situations, and doesn't wait for perfect information
- Systems thinker and owner - willing to think and collaborate across team boundaries to make sure the product works well as a whole
- Rigorous about quality - writes well-tested, well-monitored software and iterates on it over time
Nice to have
- Experience with relevant technologies a plus: Kubernetes, Rust, Python, NATS, PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB, SQLite
