Responsibilities

  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about the student as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Create a variety of documents and materials (e.g. games, schedules, visual supports, observation and success logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and promoting student growth and development.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with school personnel, parents, and other service providers for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Document student progress/activities/outcomes and provide regular feedback to classroom teachers, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Requirements

  • Desire and commitment to working with students with special needs required
  • ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, colleagues and families
  • Accurately complete all required documentation and data collection daily.
  • Coursework in Education/Special Education/Related field preferred
  • Demonstrated awareness of, sensitivity to, and competence in working with families from various culturally and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
  • Superb interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of students, colleagues and families
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative and start-up learning environment
  • Driven adult learner dedicated to his or her own professional growth, including learning new and innovative teaching practices
  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a solutions-oriented attitude
  • 180-day school year, 8 student-free professional development days for collaboration with colleagues.
  • Common building hours are 8:00am-4:00pm.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
  • Experience working with students with Autism strongly preferred
  • Experience/knowledge of ABA practices strongly preferred

Compensation

  • $26-$29/hr commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits fully covered for full-time employees (depending on the selected plan).

Benefits

  • The Behavior Aide reports to the Director of Student Services and provides behavior and academic support services to identified students in the general education classroom.
  • Behavior intervention draws on multiple disciplines, including psychology, education, community health, social work, and counseling.
  • Work under the supervision of a certificated Education Specialist who will provide weekly oversight, training and direction
  • Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Follow through on treatment or behavior plans for Yu Ming students who require special education services as outlined in their IEPs and reinforce learning of material or skills as described in the IEP.
