About the role

  • It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws.
  • Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission.
  • Description of Work Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor at a minimum custody male correctional facility, this position works in the Programs Department carrying a caseload of offenders.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Compensation

  • $37,377 - $65,408
  • NCDAC uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions with the most qualified individuals. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.

Company info

  • Providing supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following-up on offenders' questions and concerns as well as making recommendations to the classifications committee.
  • Communicating effectively with other staff, offenders and the general public and working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders, who can become physically violent and verbally abusive.
  • Performing crisis interventions to include suicide prevention.
  • Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinate major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders, such as offender work assignments, work release, education or recreation, as well as transition planning and coordinating.
  • Preparing written reports with accurately reflect date reviewed by various sources, reviewing, analyzing and evaluating various documents and behavior data gathered form interviews, written documentation and personal observation.
  • Documented knowledge of case management practices, or supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments.
