About the role

  • The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.

  • Project Manager (Research)

Responsibilities

  • Manages the planning and implementation of evaluation and research project systems, mechanisms, and programs for the Clerc Center's primary functions, including strategic planning, project development, research project management, public input gathering and dissemination, and reporting.
  • Manages research projects related to Clerc Center priorities and initiatives with emphasis on the implementation of research-based practices for use by parents of deaf and hard of hearing children from birth through high school and professionals.
  • Manages multiple responsibilities simultaneously; leads or participates on research project teams; and uses a collaborative process to define the specific roles and responsibilities for research team members.
  • Establishes and maintains professional, collegial relationships with team members, supervisor program staff, school professionals, and potential collaborators with a genuine commitment to belonging for all involved.
  • Works with other members of the unit to systematically document organizational planning progress for reporting, historical, and other purposes; and prepares clear and accurate reports tailored to meet the information needs of different audiences, including federal and University oversight groups, educators, parents, and researchers.
  • Maintains fiscal accountability for assigned budgets; and manages assigned resources and performs administrative responsibilities in compliance with policies, procedures, and timelines.
  • Ensures initiatives and projects provide support for the Clerc Center's efforts to raise student achievement, with particular focus on deaf and hard of hearing students from birth through high school who have been traditionally underserved.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Performs related and other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience with research, evaluation, or a related field
  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language.
  • Uses advancing technologies to enhance the Clerc Center's ability to achieve its established agenda and strategic plan goals, including resource development and dissemination activities.
  • The successful candidate will undergo a background check that must be cleared prior to working at Gallaudet University.

Nice to have

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience working in a K-12 setting.
  • Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience with effective research knowledge translation for writing and developing research products designed for families and professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience working with deaf or hard of hearing children in ECE-12, post-secondary, or agency settings, their families, and/or educators and professionals who work with them.

Skills

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of working with traditionally underserved groups of families and children.
  • Strong knowledge about professional standards related to the protection of human subjects and ethical and professional practice.
  • Demonstrated experience with using tools to track activities, milestones, and progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and across University departments, outside constituents, and groups.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
