About the role
- ICON is seeking a Construction Materials Technician to join our innovative Materials Science team.
- In this role, you'll play a key part in the development and testing of the cement-based materials that power ICON's advanced 3D printing technology.
- This position is based at ICON's lab in Austin, TX, and reports directly to the Senior Materials Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
- Perform standardized laboratory tests on aggregates, cement, concrete, and related materials under guidance from senior staff.
- Support internal quality control activities by fabricating and transporting test samples, recording test data, and helping maintain test documentation.
- Maintain and clean laboratory tools and testing equipment
- Perform physical tasks, including lifting materials up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in varying conditions
- Maintain and clean laboratory tools and testing equipment; assist with calibrations and basic troubleshooting.
- You'll support both laboratory and field testing efforts to ensure the quality, performance, and reliability of our construction materials.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in concrete, cement, or construction materials testing.
- Ability to obtain ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification within 3 months of hire
- Support other departments with materials testing needs when required.
Skills
- ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician certification.
- Familiarity with ASTM test methods for concrete and mortar.
- Experience working in a laboratory or on active construction sites.
- Basic computer skills (Google Workspace or MS Office).
- Strong attention to detail and curiosity to learn new processes.
- Experience or interest in working at a startup or with emerging construction technologies.
- Flexibility to work occasional extended hours or weekends as needed
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely and regularly.
- Comfortable standing and moving on your feet for the majority of the workday.
- Flexible availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
