About the role

  • The Civil Rights Division works to prevent and remedy discrimination on the basis of protected characteristics in order to ensure equal opportunity and safeguard constitutional rights for all.
  • Embedded in the Division are teams dedicated to protecting individuals and communities impacted by issues of children's justice, disability rights, and police accountability.
  • Primary Duties: The Intake Coordinator is responsible for a wide range of duties to assist the Division in investigating and resolving civil rights violations, including some paralegal duties.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have either (A) a Bachelor's degree, (B) an Associate degree with at least two years of equivalent experience, or (C) four years of equivalent experience.
  • Equivalent experience includes consistent full-time or equivalent part-time technical or professional experience in public relations, hotline or call center work, or working with the public.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and extensive experience with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
  • Ability to convey information and communicate clearly and effectively in different settings, including on the phone, in person, in writing, and in public presentations.
  • Ability to gather and analyze information through conversations and research and to summarize such information and analysis verbally and in writing.
  • On in-office days the Intake Coordinator will be required to report to our Boston office or one of our regional offices in Worcester, Springfield and New Bedford.

Nice to have

  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole or other languages is preferred.

Skills

  • Primary responsibilities include:
  • Participate in outreach events, including trainings and public presentations.
  • Network with community organizations and governmental agencies.
  • Create and update Division brochures and written materials.
  • Research issues of interest to the Division.
  • Respond to public records requests and other informational inquiries.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
