  • The supervisor plays a central role in maintaining a welcoming client experience while safeguarding the integrity of food handling, inventory, and reporting data across the operation.

Responsibilities

  • Building on our roots as a world-wide Christian church, each year we help more than 2 million people, providing necessities such as food, clothing and shelter.
  • In addition, we support people experiencing unemployment, addiction and family challenges.
  • Support staff and volunteer safety and performance by providing guidance, feedback, and timely resolution of issues as needed
  • Maintain a welcoming, respectful environment for clients accessing the marketplace shopping model.

Requirements

  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required, including Child Check (if appropriate).
  • Experience and Knowledge:
  • At least two years of prior related experience, including experience in a food bank, food rescue or warehouse environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of and empathy toward cultural differences.
  • Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity.
  • The performance of the job requires attentive listening (empathy to guests/volunteers/co-workers) and the ability to give directions.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years in a related field.
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR, Non-Violence Certificate, and Mental Health First Aid Certificate or willingness to complete once hired.

  • Willingness and ability to complete training as required by contract or The Salvation Army.

Compensation

  • The target hiring range for this position is $45,045.00 to $56,316.00 with a maximum of $67,567.50.
  • Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.

  • Position Purpose summary:
  • The food bank supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Vernon Salvation Army food bank's facility, including the client-choice marketplace, warehouse, food sorting and storage areas, and delivery/food recovery driver operations.
  • Accountabilities:
  • The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar duties to the listed below:
  • Daily operations
  • Coordinate the daily operations of the food bank, including the marketplace, warehouse, front desk, and driver functions.
  • Provide in-scope supervision and advice to drivers, front desk, marketplace, and warehouse staff.
  • Schedule drivers for delivery, pick-up, and food recovery routes.
  • Participate on regular staff and volunteer safety meetings.
  • Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
  • Hold overall responsibility for food safety practices among staff and volunteers.
  • Ensure sorting, handling, and storage practices in the perishable sorting area meet food safety requirements.
  • Ensure food safety, volunteer management, and food distribution practices align with Food Banks Canada's Standards of Excellence (SOE).
  • Workplace Safety & Facility Management
  • Oversee workplace safety practices, including the safe operation of pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment.
  • Ensure cleaning and housekeeping standards are maintained across the warehouse, marketplace, front desk and back-of-house areas.
  • Monitor the condition and cleanliness of walk-in coolers and freezers.
