About the role
- The NYISO's Interconnection Studies department invites applications for a full-time Senior Planning Engineer.
- Also coordinates with other SRP and NYISO departments as necessary to prepare various reports and filings as appropriate.
- Generally, a Senior Planning Engineer provides high level technical guidance to other System and Resource Planning staff or other departments as necessary.
Requirements
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to write presentations and articles using prescribed techniques or style.
- Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
- Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra and advanced statistical theory.
- Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations and proofs of theorems.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
- Knowledge of the following software tools is desired:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- A minimum of five years experience in the areas of power system planning or design, planning and/or design of transmission system facilities preferred.
- Knowledge of reliability standards and practices related to power system planning and design.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write presentations and articles using prescribed techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

- Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail and internet programs.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Nice to have
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field required with a concentration in power systems preferred
- Master's Degree desired.

- Power Flow (Siemens PTI PSS/E & PowerGEM TARA)
- Steady State Analysis (PowerGEM TARA program or equivalent)
- Stability (primarily PSS/E)
- Short Circuit (primarily ASPEN)
Compensation
- $105,700 - $176,400 USD
