About the role
- Checkout.com http://Checkout.com is seeking a talented Legal Counsel with a strong banking and payments background to join our Legal team in Atlanta.
- As Legal Counsel, you will work closely with all areas of the business and take a collaborative approach to solving complex legal challenges.
- You will also be expected to advise on compliance with financial services and payments regulations, interact with regulators and assist in the implementation of broader regulatory projects and product launches for projects across the Americas.
Responsibilities
- Support relationships with Georgia Department of Banking and Finance and US state and national regulators on license-related matters
- Support the company's strategic projects and initiatives by providing creative, proactive and results-orientated advice

- Reporting to the CEO of our North America banking operations, you will act as the primary legal support for our Georgia Merchant Acquiring Limited Purpose Bank (MALPB) charter.

Requirements
- 4+ years of legal experience
- Strong understanding of legal principles applicable to payments and financial institutions in the US, including the payments ecosystem and payments regulatory and licensing strategy/execution
- Experience working in a start up or other fast-paced and dynamic environment is desirable but not essential
- Comfort with ambiguity, constant change, and a fast-paced culture
- Experience working internationally and on a variety of cross-border matters
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed, flexing the approach as the matter requires
- Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate and explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely
