About the role

  • Job Description SUMMARY: Reporting to the Assistant Supervisor 2, the Motor Vehicle Operator 1 is responsible for the operation of Shuttle Bus vehicles on, around, and in the vicinity of the Montclair State University campus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicle, removing and properly disposing of debris from bus at the end of each shift.
  • Perform proper log-on and log-off procedures for TripShot vehicle tracking and maintain communications with dispatch office at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness of bus shelters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in work involving the operation of commercial buses.
  • Knowledge of minor automobile repair procedures.
  • As required by the State of New Jersey, in order to be certified to the position and attain permanent status in title, candidates are subject to an examination and successful completion of a 4-Month Working Test Period.

  • Complete and submit all required forms and reports to supervisor prior to the end of shift.
  • May be required to perform clerical and/or administrative duties as assigned.
  • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the institution and Department of Transportation Services.
  • Appointees must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B Driver's license issued by the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles. Appointees must possess the applicable endorsements (passenger and air brake endorsement) for the class and type of vehicle being operated.
  • Must be flexible and available for all assigned shifts, overtime and holiday assignments.
  • Knowledge of the methods used to operate and maintain vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods used to load, unload, and deliver varied types of materials and to maintain basic records, invoices, and receipts.
  • NOTE: This is a Civil Service position. As required by the State of New Jersey, in order to be certified to the position and attain permanent status in title, candidates are subject to an examination and successful completion of a 4-Month Working Test Period.
  • This position is designated as essential. The designation of essential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be present due to inclement weather situations. This position requires on campus work and is not a position that allows remote work.

Compensation

  • O09: $37,334.25 - $53,572.65 *NOTE: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission's formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to step four, $42,205.77.
