About the role
- This position is responsible for maintaining GIS data, producing maps and visualizations, supporting routine spatial analysis activities, and assisting departments with GIS-related requests and applications.
- This position is classified as a Critical personnel classification for Emergency Response.
Responsibilities
- The GIS Analyst performs professional geographic information systems (GIS) work in support of the City's GIS Division and departmental operations.
- The GIS Analyst works under general supervision and serves as a technical support resource for GIS operations.
- include maintaining geospatial datasets, supporting field data collection efforts, assisting with GIS application support, and producing cartographic products for internal and public use.
- Critical status is defined as employees whose duties are vital to maintain basic municipal functions during an emergency.
Skills
- Requires working knowledge of automated mapping principles and cartographic procedures.
- Possesses working knowledge of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Exhibits basic knowledge of GIS data management concepts and geodatabases.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of GPS data collection methods and procedures.
- Possesses working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of software.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Exhibits the ability to follow written and oral instructions and work independently on assigned tasks.
- Requires knowledge of standard office equipment and its use, including computers, printers, and large-format plotters.
- Obtains basic knowledge of scripting or web technologies (e.g., Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript) preferred.
- Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field required.
- Licenses of Certifications A valid Mississippi Driver's License.
- GIS Professional (GISP) certification preferred but not required.
Compensation
- $35,792.23 - $53,289.76
