About the role

  • The Shop Mechanic plays a critical role in maintaining and optimizing a fleet of specialized construction equipment used in roadway safety operations.
  • This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and minimal downtime.
  • This is a hands-on role for a highly skilled mechanic who takes pride in quality work, solves problems quickly, and operates with a strong sense of ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, and specialty machinery
  • Complete welding and light fabrication to support equipment repair and modification
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspections, and work orders
  • Support equipment readiness by coordinating with operations and field teams
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant work environment

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment or construction machinery
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet CMV driver qualification requirements
  • Ability to obtain a CDL (if not already held) within a defined timeframe

Nice to have

  • Technical training or certifications in mechanics or related field
  • OEM or manufacturer-specific training (e.g., CAT, Komatsu)
  • Experience with DOT equipment and roadway construction machinery
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions when working outside
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and work on feet for extended periods
