About the role
- The Shop Mechanic plays a critical role in maintaining and optimizing a fleet of specialized construction equipment used in roadway safety operations.
- This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability, safety, and minimal downtime.
- This is a hands-on role for a highly skilled mechanic who takes pride in quality work, solves problems quickly, and operates with a strong sense of ownership.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, and specialty machinery
- Complete welding and light fabrication to support equipment repair and modification
- Maintain accurate service records, inspections, and work orders
- Support equipment readiness by coordinating with operations and field teams
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-compliant work environment
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment or construction machinery
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet CMV driver qualification requirements
- Ability to obtain a CDL (if not already held) within a defined timeframe
Nice to have
- Technical training or certifications in mechanics or related field
- OEM or manufacturer-specific training (e.g., CAT, Komatsu)
- Experience with DOT equipment and roadway construction machinery
- Exposure to varying weather conditions when working outside
- Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and work on feet for extended periods
