Responsibilities

  • Keeping high quality connectivity is key to Sparklight. You will maintain high level service by troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions in the Headend, HFC and fiber optic networks, and the Home Terminal Units.
  • You'll be reading and interpreting system/network design maps.
  • Splicing and/or terminating coaxial and fiber optics cables, mounting active and passive devices, both aerial and underground (cabinets and vaults), activating actives devices and testing to ensure optimal performance of all equipment in the HFC/fiber optic plant to Company, manufacturer, and design specifications.
  • Continuously monitoring plant for ingress/egress and performs signal leakage ride-out activities and tracks and repairs signal leakage, as necessary.

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of signal level meters, volt-ohm meters (VOM), leakage detection equipment, time domain reflectometer (TDR), optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) and other related test equipment.
  • The position requires the ability to work a variable schedule and respond to service interruptions during regular business hours, shift work or when on-call.
  • Must be available to work overtime including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school
  • or three to four years related experience and/or training
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must successfully complete Sparklight Technical Training Center Advanced Technician course within 6 months of accepting position.
  • Knowledgeable of rules and regulations of various regulatory bodies impacting the operation of a telecommunications system including, but not limited to, FCC, NEC, NESC, OSHA, and DOT, as well as all local ordinances.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license of the state in which the individual is employed.
