About the role

  • He/she will have further responsibility of understanding and assisting in implementing current methodologies, effective instructional strategies and facilitating reading-related professional development.
  • The Reading Specialist reports to the Assistant Head of School and is a 10 month position.
  • Provide small group (pull-out) reading instruction (before, during, and/or after school) to students in need of remediation.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain working relationships.
  • Implement and monitor a plan for reading support based on school needs
  • Model, co-plan, co-deliver and coach staff to support the delivery of effective reading instruction.
  • Our schools are supported by a non-profit partner to provide holistic services to the school including out-of-school time, our social work project and Head start.
  • We do it by ensuring our students have access to complete support both in and out of the classroom through a talented team of teachers, leaders, social workers, and partner

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and administer effective district-wide and school- specific professional development.
  • Experience collaboration with school-based administration and counselors to ensure student success
  • Experience using data to monitor students' academic and behavioral progress
  • Education and Experience:
  • Pennsylvania K-12 Reading Specialist certificate
  • Minimum of five years' experience working in schools, supporting students to realize success both academically and behaviorally
