About the role

  • The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting in all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III varsity diving program.
  • The primary focus is the instruction, safety, and recruitment of student-athletes within the diving discipline.
  • The position includes evening and weekend hours and follows the academic calendar.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all diving practices, meets, and dryland activities. Provide technical analysis of performance, identifying areas for improvement and teaching new dives and techniques using specialized equipment (e.g., trampoline and spotting rig).
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of and compliance with NCAA Division III and Mount Holyoke College regulations regarding recruiting, student-athlete eligibility, and PSA (Prospective Student-Athlete) evaluations.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of diving recruitment. Identify, evaluate, and communicate with PSAs to build a competitive roster of student-athletes.
  • Maintain and oversee the upkeep of diving-specific equipment (boards, harnesses, trampolines) to ensure a safe and high-functioning training environment.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of e-Dive, Dive Meet, and other relevant recruiting or department software.

  • Commitment to the student-athlete, passion for the sport, and a high degree of self-motivation to recruit and coach in a challenging academic environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body and a commitment to fostering an inclusive team culture.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and prospective families.
  • Ability to safely use a trampoline and spotting rig for training and instructive purposes.
  • For faculty positions, statements on mentoring, teaching, and research will also be required.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Previous coaching experience
  • Competitive diving experience.
  • Lifeguard Training Certification.
