About the role

  • The APPF demonstrates knowledge and competency of core skills related to family and rural health medicine that serves as a basis for continued growth and progression of skills and pace.
  • The APPF role is applicable for a 12 month period.
  • Under general physician supervision, provides quality service in a caring and professional manner, actively supporting team efforts to ensure cost effectiveness and service excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Attends Family Medicine grand rounds and lectures, develops beginner and advanced skills in suturing, wound care, I&D, foreign body removal.
  • Performs basic physical, psychological and developmental assessments using the techniques of observation, inspection, auscultation, percussion and palpation.
  • Assesses, diagnoses, and manages selected acute and chronic illnesses and conditions.
  • Performs splinting, suturing, and incision and drainage as appropriate.
  • Initiates and implements appropriate treatment plan using established protocols or physician consultation.
  • Performs specific job
  • Maintains patient flow, seeing patients in appropriate order and keeps exam rooms filled.
  • By the end of the fellowship, the APPF is able to manage 16 patients per day in the family medicine setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program or Nurse Practitioner Program required.
  • Meets credentialing requirements.
  • Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic's malpractice insurance carrier.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers.
  • Maintains open and supportive communications between all department members and other employees, patients and their family members.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.

Nice to have

  • Clinical experience appropriate to specific practice/ department preferred.
  • certification, and/or
  • Current Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner license required.
  • DEA licensure required.
  • AHA BLS, ACLS certification required.
  • PALS required within 6 months of Fellowship training.
  • Must be able to care for patients of all age ranges.

Compensation

  • $68,640.00 - $68,640.00 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience.
