About the role
- Work involves performance of personnel assignments as well as supervision of the shift.
- Work is performed within established policies and procedures and according to Department regulations.
- The position of Corporal, by definition, includes the role and function of a police supervisor in addition to all duties and responsibilities of an officer and guard assigned to the Patrol Section.
Responsibilities
- Supervises uniformed and support staff in shift work and special details.
- Maintains knowledge in the operation of the Universities Emergency Action Plan and the DU emergency alert system.
- Maintains working knowledge of all security systems used at Duquesne University.
- As appropriate, Corporals will continue to provide coaching and counseling to maintain order, and enforce discipline, prior to reporting to management.
Requirements
- Within the limitations of authority established by the Chief of Police, the Corporal exercises a degree of initiative and independence in carrying out their duties.
Compensation
- The Corporal will assist the Sergeant by providing input into the annual Department Performance Appraisals for the officers of their shift.
