About the role

  • Work involves performance of personnel assignments as well as supervision of the shift.
  • Work is performed within established policies and procedures and according to Department regulations.
  • The position of Corporal, by definition, includes the role and function of a police supervisor in addition to all duties and responsibilities of an officer and guard assigned to the Patrol Section.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises uniformed and support staff in shift work and special details.
  • Maintains knowledge in the operation of the Universities Emergency Action Plan and the DU emergency alert system.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all security systems used at Duquesne University.
  • As appropriate, Corporals will continue to provide coaching and counseling to maintain order, and enforce discipline, prior to reporting to management.

Requirements

  • Within the limitations of authority established by the Chief of Police, the Corporal exercises a degree of initiative and independence in carrying out their duties.

Compensation

  • The Corporal will assist the Sergeant by providing input into the annual Department Performance Appraisals for the officers of their shift.
