Responsibilities
- The Origination Engineer is the technical engine behind MEI's proposals, designing photovoltaic solar and battery energy storage systems, running energy models, and providing the inputs that drive capital expenditure estimates.
- Working at the intersection of design, engineering, and commercial origination, this role translates site-level analysis into constructable, value-optimized designs that move deals forward.
- System Design & Layout - Create solar PV and BESS designs using AutoCAD, Helioscope, and other design software
- Equipment Selection - Select major equipment for each site and evaluate new equipment entering the market to inform design decisions and maintain competitive positioning
- Value Engineering - Identify value engineering opportunities within designs and collaborate with Origination and Estimating to quantify and capture savings
- Proposal Support - Partner with the Origination team to integrate design details, project risks, and construction approaches into customer-facing proposals
- Design Handoff & Documentation - Create design packages for handover to the Project Engineering team as projects reach exclusivity; ensure documentation is complete and constructable
- M&A Technical Review - Support the Mergers & Acquisitions team by reviewing site due diligence, preliminary designs, and permit-level plans from other developers
- Cross-Functional Coordination - Work closely with Origination, Development, Estimating, Commercial Analysis, Project Engineering, Project Managers, M&A, and QA/QC to ensure proposal design packages are efficiently laid out and constructable

Requirements
- Experience - 1-3 years of experience designing solar and battery systems, or similar design experience using AutoCAD
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and PVSyst (or similar energy modeling software)
- Technical Foundation - Fundamental knowledge of electrical systems and circuitry
