About the role

SUMMARY The Southern Queens Park Association (SQPA) is seeking a customer service-oriented, dependable, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Maintenance Technician/Handyman at the Roy Wilkins Recreation Center.

This position is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, repair, and appearance of the Roy Wilkins Recreation Center and its associated spaces.
Primary duties include the following:
Complete basic handyman repairs, including minor carpentry, painting, drywall patching, hardware replacement, door and lock adjustments, fixture repairs, and other general maintenance tasks.
Assemble and install office furniture, shelving, whiteboards, bulletin boards, equipment, and other facility furnishings.
Identify maintenance concerns, troubleshoot issues, and complete minor repairs or coordinate larger repairs with vendors when necessary.
Assist with event setup, room configurations, and breakdowns.
Monitor and remove garbage and recycling throughout assigned work areas.
Serve as the primary communication point for the maintenance team, primarily through email during your shift.

SQPA has strategically located service sites throughout Southern Queens and was constituted to actively combat the social issues that challenge or impact the quality of life in the geographic area in and around Jamaica, Queens.
SQPA is not a part of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation but is an anchor institution that serves as an intermediary, facilitator, organizer, advocate, provider, and sanctuary.
