About the role
- As a Transit Mechanic, you will be responsible for:
Requirements
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles for diesel and gas engines, fluid systems, electrical systems, powertrains, chassis, and preventative maintenance inspections.
- Experience with brakes (air/hydraulic), heating, air conditioning, hydraulic systems, and transmissions.
- Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities is acceptable. A typical path to acquiring these skills includes:
- Graduation from a technical school or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of verifiable automotive mechanical experience.
- ASE or Dealer Certification.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License and be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B CDL with Passenger endorsement, issued by the Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles, or a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). ORT offers free in-house CDL training.
- Must meet all Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, including criminal background requirements for safety-sensitive positions.
