About the role
- The RealReal is looking for a highly experienced and self-motivated Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join our Seller team.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to align technology development with business objectives, effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Working closely with Product partners and Engineering management, you will build technical solutions enhancing, optimizing and iterating the RealReal's Seller Platform.
- You will work closely with Product and business stakeholders to help build robust scalable back-ends to empower seamless and engaging customer journeys that optimize our Seller platform effectiveness.
- Design and Develop: Lead the architecture and development of software solutions, making strategic decisions that influence our technical direction.
- Collaborate and Communicate:
- Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and contributing to a culture of excellence.
- Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with cross-functional teams to align technology development with business objectives, effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Code Review and Quality Assurance: Perform rigorous code reviews and advocate for best coding practices to ensure our products are efficient and maintainable.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and contributing to a culture of excellence.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of software development experience
- Required experience with Java and Ruby
- Proven experience with the development, scaling, and maintenance of distributed systems
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of software development experience with a track record of successfully shipping consumer or business facing products
- Familiarity with Front-end JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, etc.)
- Familiarity with Gradle and Spring Boot
- Familiarity with Python
- Familiarity with AWS

- Minimum Requirements:
- Solid understanding of software engineering principles, architectural design, and agile development methodologies
- Excellent analytical abilities and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to work independently on complex issues
- Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas clearly and concisely
- Experience in using modern AI coding tools and autonomous engineering agents (such as Cursor, Claude Code or GitHub Copilot Workspace) to accelerate feature development, automate boilerplate creation, and troubleshoot code, while maintaining full human accountability for architectural integrity and final code quality.
