About the role
- Under the supervision of the Transportation Manager, the School Bus Monitor will ride an afternoon bus route every day.
- The Bus Monitor will recommend appropriate follow-up for students who do not follow safety guidelines, and/or the directions of the bus driver or monitor.
Responsibilities
- Implement emergency procedures and assist in evacuation if necessary.
- Help to maintain a tidy environment by picking up trash and reminding students to throw away trash.
Requirements
- Incumbents must be able to perform job duties with or without accommodation.
- Frequently required to sit for long periods
- The employee must be physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures.
Nice to have
- Check that all students are off the bus at the last stop, ensuring no students have fallen asleep on the bus.
- Check all seats for students.
- Complete required school trainings each year (Vector Solutions, CPR/First Aid, mandatory reporting, safe handling of hazardous materials, mandatory school meetings, all other).
- OTHER DUTIES Other duties as assigned INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS Regular interaction with students and school staff.
- Frequent communication with parents, faculty, and other members of the school community.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Some e xperience working closely with students and correcting student behavior is preferred.
- Background check and fingerprinting required.
Compensation
- $28/hour ESSENTIAL DUTIES Student Supervision: Monitor students on the bus to ensure proper behavior, adherence to safety rules, and orderly boarding and exiting the bus.
- Safety Enforcement: Ensure students remain seated, aisles are clear, and seatbelts are used, when applicable.
- Implement emergency procedures and assist in evacuation if necessary.
- Incident Reporting: Submit an incident report on MyCG for any incident(s) that need follow-up by the appropriate school division.
- For French International students: incidents should be forwarded to the Transportation Manager and the Associate Director, Campus Services.
- Recommend a plan of action for the students involved in the incident to ensure the behavior is not repeated Bus Cleanliness: Help to maintain a tidy environment by picking up trash and reminding students to throw away trash.
