About the role

  • BASIC FUNCTION: A Graduate Vocational Nurse who has a temporary work permit, must work under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse or a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a preceptor program for three months.
  • He/She assists as necessary in assignments of duties to provide total nursing care.

Requirements

  • Completes and/or meets training, certification required by Buckner and State.
  • Working knowledge of infection control, universal precautions and OSHA standards required.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods involved in in-service instruction of nursing and auxiliary personnel, in demonstrating techniques and methods of patient-care services, and instruction of resident's needs required.
  • knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary to administer medication and treatment as prescribed by physician
  • knowledge of medications and possible side effects.
  • Requires proficient ability to speak, read and write English.
  • Requires ability to communicate verbally with residents, families, visitors and co-workers.
  • Requires ability to make self clearly understood by others.
  • Requires ability to recognize differences in sound, such as voices/noises that are loud and playful instead of angry and combative.
  • Requires ability to exercise independent judgment under broad nursing case guidelines.

Nice to have

  • Requires basic understanding of a specialized area of knowledge normally acquired through four years of high school, plus two years of college or vocational school and appropriate license/certification.
  • Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions required.
