About the role

  • This position serves as the GeoMaterials Field Supervisor responsible for direct supervision duties of five regionally assigned GeoMaterials Field Specialists located across the state.
  • Key duties include managing/overseeing training certification programs related to nuclear, conventional, and non-nuclear density within the geomaterials used along NC highways.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability assessing proficiency of technicians to ensure compliance with established testing and inspection methods in both classroom and field inspection environments

Compensation

  • NC 14 $52,592 - $92,036

  • Description of Work
  • The Materials and Tests Unit (M&T) is responsible for establishing acceptance criteria for materials and manufactured products to be incorporated into the North Carolina highway system and ensuring that these materials and manufactured products meet these criteria and will function as intended.
  • This position identifies challenges or opportunities for enhancing certification courses while working with Division staff, Contractors, and Industry personnel.
  • This position aids the Field Services Engineer in logistics of scheduling the Materials and Tests certification class schedules.
  • This position performs internal audits, inventory and standardization of equipment, and specialized training of staff to enhance development, efficiency, and consistency across the state.
  • This position is responsible for ensuring nuclear density gauge authorized users are meeting rules and regulations stated in the Radioactive Materials Licensure program which includes controlling use and transportation of the gauges.
  • This position investigates materials-related unsatisfactory test results and disputed technician assessments.
  • This position aids in responding to project audits initiated by the N.C. Office of the State Auditor.
  • This position coordinates research to evaluate new products or testing methods.
  • Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle.
  • This position requires extensive travel - including overnights on occasion.
