Responsibilities
- Assist with developing, testing, and improving control logic for manufacturing equipment and automation systems
- Support troubleshooting of Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and other industrial control devices
- Help connect and validate communication between PLCs, networked devices, and plant systems
- Support industrial networking activities such as device configuration, connectivity checks, and communication troubleshooting
- Document programming changes, test results, and troubleshooting steps for automation projects
- This internship is designed for someone at the beginning of their engineering career who wants to build practical skills in Allen-Bradley PLCs, industrial networking, and Inductive Automation Ignition.
- You'll work alongside experienced engineers and technicians to support automation projects, troubleshoot equipment issues, and contribute to improvements in manufacturing processes.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or have completed an associate's or bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and operations teams
- At Trane Technologies, you'll join a collaborative manufacturing engineering team and gain hands-on experience with real production equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Nice to have
- Exposure to Inductive Automation Ignition, SCADA, or HMI development through coursework, projects, or prior experience
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, or similar industrial automation software
- Basic knowledge of industrial communication concepts such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, TCP/IP, RS232, or RS485
- Experience with sensors, actuators, relays, and other control system components
- Exposure to manufacturing, maintenance, controls, or automation-related projects
- Experience with technical documentation, data collection, and basic analysis
- Familiarity with programming or scripting tools such as Python is a plus
- How PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial networks are used in a large-scale manufacturing environment
