About the role

  • The AVP, Cyber Underwriter is responsible for driving profitable growth within the cyber insurance portfolio through disciplined underwriting, strong broker relationships, and effective risk selection.
  • The position plays a key role in executing underwriting strategy, maintaining portfolio profitability (P&L), and identifying new business opportunities in targeted industries.

Responsibilities

  • Develop customized insurance solutions based on client exposures and risk profiles
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with retail brokers and agency partners
  • Manage the full underwriting lifecycle: submission, quote, negotiation, and binding
  • Monitor and manage P&L within assigned underwriting authority
  • Support cross-selling opportunities across other specialty lines
  • Partner with internal teams including claims, actuarial, legal, and compliance
  • Mentor and support junior underwriting staff as needed
  • Support use of automation and AI tools to enhance efficiency and risk assessment
  • Proven track record of building and managing a profitable book of business

Requirements

  • 7-12+ years of underwriting experience, with a focus on cyber, technology E&O, or specialty lines
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or related field required
  • Active Property & Casualty (P&C) license required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred but not required
  • Surplus Lines license preferred
  • Industry designations such as CPCU, RPLU, or AU are a plus
  • Experience working with retail brokers in the NYC or Northeast market preferred
