About the role
- The AVP, Cyber Underwriter is responsible for driving profitable growth within the cyber insurance portfolio through disciplined underwriting, strong broker relationships, and effective risk selection.
- The position plays a key role in executing underwriting strategy, maintaining portfolio profitability (P&L), and identifying new business opportunities in targeted industries.
Responsibilities
- Develop customized insurance solutions based on client exposures and risk profiles
- Build and maintain strong relationships with retail brokers and agency partners
- Manage the full underwriting lifecycle: submission, quote, negotiation, and binding
- Monitor and manage P&L within assigned underwriting authority
- Support cross-selling opportunities across other specialty lines
- Partner with internal teams including claims, actuarial, legal, and compliance
- Mentor and support junior underwriting staff as needed
- Support use of automation and AI tools to enhance efficiency and risk assessment
- Proven track record of building and managing a profitable book of business
Requirements
- 7-12+ years of underwriting experience, with a focus on cyber, technology E&O, or specialty lines
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, or related field required
- Active Property & Casualty (P&C) license required
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment
Nice to have
- Advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred but not required
- Surplus Lines license preferred
- Industry designations such as CPCU, RPLU, or AU are a plus
- Experience working with retail brokers in the NYC or Northeast market preferred
