When providing breastfeeding support and teaching to breastfeeding patients and families utilize knowledge of personality, counseling skills, and family and group theory.
Develops and individualizes a breastfeeding plan of care for each mother-baby couple in accordance with established standards, appropriate prioritization of problems/needs, and mutually agreed upon goals.
Plans, organizes and delivers lactation services to all breastfeeding patients, both in patient and out-patient.

Consistently and thoroughly assesses patients/families to collect data and identify learning needs according to established standards and policies.
Participates appropriately in communication and decision-making activities of the lactation services and the maternal-child health service.
Creates a milieu that promotes learning for staff and patients. plans, teaches and conducts in-service education for staff and students including orientation of new staff.
Establishes effective collaborative relationships with other members of the health team as it relates to breastfeeding
