- Overview This position is responsible for the diagnostic preparation of histology slides, performing histopathological tests, maintenance tasks, quality control and quality compliance with regulatory YNHH and University standards.
- include accessing and grossing of small specimens, core biopsies, and large simple biopsy specimens under the supervision of a certified Pathologist Assistant and or Pathologist.
Responsibilities
- Sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Oversees and instructs support staff.
- Develops and modifies laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Orders and maintains inventory of supplies.
- May photograph specimens and other matter and develop film.
- Performs additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.

Requirements
- Attain knowledge of the laboratory computer system to record results.
- Work requires visual strain due to prolonged/extended close examination of specimens and use of microscopy (light or fluorescent), prolonged periods of standing and walking, and ability to lift objects weighing 50lbs.
- These may include vaccinations, tests, or examinations, as required by law, regulation, or university policy.

- Required Skills and Abilities 1.
- Must possess excellent technical and theoretical ability in clinical histology.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within clinical and other diverse groups.
- Demonstrated ability to distinguish results of various tests and acknowledge the accuracy of the results i.e. special stain.
- Considerable knowledge of laboratory instrumentation.
- Ability for tolerance and stamina.
- Ability to sit in one position for long periods of time.

- associate degree in laboratory sciences or medical laboratory technology or 60 semester hours from an accredited institution (minimum of 24science courses) and prior related work experience.
