About the role

  • Lumafield is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to work directly with customer engineering and manufacturing teams as part of the Applications Engineering team.
  • FDEs deploy to customer sites for engagements that can range from one to ten, or potentially more, weeks, executing the technical scope of work on the customer's floor and serving as the on-site face of Lumafield.
  • This role becomes an expert in all aspects of the Lumafield platform - all hardware product lines, Voyager and related custom software- and applies that expertise hands-on at the customer site.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis in Voyager, including defect detection, dimensional measurement, assembly verification, and other workflows aligned to the customer's use case.
  • Support ML model implementation at the customer site, including data collection, validation, and integration into the customer's production workflow, in partnership with Lumafield's ML and product teams.
  • Support customer training and adoption to build capability on the customer's team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to lead technical conversations, run trainings, and represent Lumafield independently on a customer site for extended periods.
  • Our company, like our platform, is designed for upgrades.
  • We're building for greater intelligence, autonomy, and speed.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in solution engineering, or in manufacturing, process, or industrial engineering in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, which may range from machining, casting, injection molding, additive manufacturing, stamping, or assembly
  • Have direct experience with continuous improvement and process control methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, or PFMEA, and how they intersect with inspection and quality work.
  • Because FDEs are often the only Lumafield representative on the ground for weeks at a time, excellent customer-facing communication and the ability to operate autonomously are core requirements of the role.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on experience with industrial CT, CMM, or other dimensional metrology or NDT workflows.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, first-article inspection (FAI), or other inspection processes.
  • Manufacturing, Process, or Industrial Engineering experience in a production manufacturing environment
