About the role

  • Washington County Health and Human Services Department is currently hiring for a Variable Hour Medicolegal Death Investigator position at Medical Examiner's Office within Public Health Division.
  • The MDI acts as the eyes and ears of the forensic pathologist while investigating the circumstances of deaths, providing the physician with the data and evidence to determine the cause and manner of death.
  • The role requires a strong foundation in medical and criminal investigative practices, human anatomy, medical terminology, and the legal framework governing death investigations.

Responsibilities

  • The purpose of this project is to create new job descriptions and create new classification and compensation systems.
  • The Medicolegal Death Investigator (MDI) receives general administrative support and general program supervision from the Chief Medicolegal Death Investigator.
  • This position partners with both the law enforcement offices the District Attorney's Office by conducting death investigations for sudden, unexpected, suspicious, or unattended deaths within Washington County's jurisdiction.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience related to death investigation and/or handling of the deceased or human remains.
  • Ability to complete the registered level of the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators within one year.
  • Must be able to perform moderately strenuous physical activity and withstand exposure to unpleasant elements at death scenes.
  • Must be able to safely lift 100 pounds from the floor to the waist level.
  • Must be able to pass a respiratory mask fit test.

Compensation

  • $33.96 - $41.29 Hourly

  • Work locations may vary: primarily at Public Services Building, Hillsboro, OR, frequently travel to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Clackamas, OR, and death scenes within Washington County jurisdiction as needed.
