About the role

  • As a Software Engineer, Intern (Summer 2027) on the Engineering team at Harvey, you'll work alongside experienced engineers on projects that power our AI products.
  • This 12 or 16 week internship is ideal for students who are curious, motivated, and excited to learn how modern application-layer and GenAI products are built.
  • You'll gain hands-on experience across the stack, contribute to real features, and see how your work impacts users in production.

Responsibilities

  • Own a project end-to-end from coding and testing to deploying it to production, and presenting your work to peers and leaders across the company.
  • Write clean, maintainable code that meets our team's standards. You'll use AI-assisted development tools daily, and you'll own the quality of everything you ship-AI-generated or not.
  • Build real knowledge of the systems you support and the users they serve, bringing that perspective into product discussions.
  • Collaborate with your team through code review, pair programming, design reviews and technical documentation.
  • Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data.
  • Able to work from our New York or San Francisco offices during our summer cohort, based on your academic schedule. Relocation support is available.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in computer science, engineering, or a related field with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
  • Previous internship experience is required.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge.
  • You have a bias toward action.
  • You've built something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or in a past internship, and you know the difference between a decision you should make yourself and one worth getting feedback on.
  • You can explain a complex technical idea in plain language, whether or not the person you're explaining it to is an engineer.
  • You look for the simplest solution that works, and you know when added complexity is worth it.

Nice to have

  • Job's Not Finished.
  • You aren't satisfied when something merely works.
  • You proactively seek out feedback, act on it, and keep pushing after the assignment is technically complete.
  • Internship experience specifically at an early-stage startup is a plus.

Compensation

  • Pay: $62/hr-$72/hr in San Francisco and New York
