About the role
- Working alongside experienced teams, you will gain hands-on exposure to complex semiconductor manufacturing equipment and processes, including vacuum technology, plasma systems, robotics, chemical delivery, advanced sensors, and control software.
- Following this training period, you will relocate to Austin, TX to play a key role in the startup of a new fab, joining a growing Field Process Engineering team from the ground up.
- Your work will directly influence system performance, uptime, and overall customer success, making you an integral part of both the immediate startup effort and the long-term growth of the organization.
Responsibilities
- You will begin with a structured 24-month assignment in Hillsboro, OR, where you will build on your technical foundation and develop deep expertise in ASM systems, operating methodologies, and customer support practices.
- In this environment, you will not only provide expert-level tool support, but also operate as a technical lead, driving startup readiness, leading structured problem-solving efforts, coordinating escalations, and mentoring newer engineers.
- This role offers high visibility and impact from day one, requiring you to build trusted customer relationships, establish strong technical / operational standards, and help scale a new operation successfully.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by training with the Business Unit to gain expertise in new deposition processes and hardware.
- Partner closely with field hardware engineers and Business Unit teams to troubleshoot new products and develop proposals for process or hardware improvements.
- Escalate issues in a timely manner to maintain project scope, timelines, and customer alignment.
- Collaborate with customer teams to identify and grow opportunities for ASM hardware and process adoption.
- Support process transfer to high‑volume manufacturing (HVM) fabs, creating and sharing best‑known methods (BKMs) and documentation.
- Maintain strong discipline in IP boundaries, customer communication, and escalation leadership.
Requirements
- MS degree + 4 years of experience, OR PhD + 0 years of experience in materials science, chemical engineering, or physics.
- Experience designing, running, and interpreting DOEs and statistical experiments.
- Familiarity with semiconductor device applications, vacuum techniques, metrology, and thin‑film characterization.
- Ability to travel as needed for training and customer engagement
- Experience with ASM ALD, PEALD, PECVD, Epitaxy, or vertical furnace LPCVD equipment.
- Experience leading customer-facing technical discussions or escalations.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional action plans during escalations.
Skills
- Analyze baseline system and process performance to identify gaps relative to technology‑node requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting and structured problem-analysis skills (KT, FMEA, Ishikawa, 7‑step, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to explain complex concepts clearly.
