About the role
- Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is the site for the new Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a one-of-a-kind nuclear physics research facility.
- It will consist of two intersecting accelerators, one producing an intense beam of electrons, the other a beam of protons or heavier atomic nuclei which are steered into collisions.
- Beyond sparking scientific discoveries in a new frontier of fundamental physics, the Electron-Ion Collider will trigger technological breakthroughs that have broad-ranging impact on human health and national challenges.
Responsibilities
- Plan, allocate, and manage team workload and priorities in alignment with project milestones.
- Lead and manage the specification, design, and analysis of power supply cables, cable tray, and racks, and assist other EIC groups with engineering of their cable, cable tray, and rack scope
- Lead and manage the operations of the EIC cable and rack plant, including fabrication planning, standards, quality control, workflow, documentation, and resource allocation.
- Contribute to the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning activities for general AC power distribution systems and power supplies.
- Develop and enforce engineering standards, design practices, documentation, and safety procedures.
- Support design reviews, readiness reviews, configuration control, and other formal project processes.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and developing electrical engineering and technical staff.
- Experience in cable and rack design, routing, installation, and configuration control.
- The EIC will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the "glue" that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe.
- The machine design is based on the existing and highly optimized RHIC Ion-Ion collider.
Requirements
- Will be required to climb ladders to varied heights
- Will be required to become a qualified Radiation Worker
- May be required to occasionally work off-hours, nights and/or weekends to support mission critical projects
- Valid drivers' license is required
- Some travel may be required
- This is due to nationwide identification requirements for federal site access as required by the federal REAL ID Act.
- As a condition of employment, the selected candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a UPIV credential.
