Sponsors, but it's cap-subject — you still face the weighted lottery (~61% per draw at Level IV). Good if you win; have a cap-exempt backup on your list.
Lottery odds assume a STEM candidate.
Personalize to your clock →H-1B wage level
the lottery is wage-weighted — each level is one more entry
The bottom of this range ($150,000) is below the Level I prevailing wage of $152,173. An H-1B cannot be filed below the prevailing wage, so an offer at the floor of this band could not be sponsored as posted.
Based on the DOL prevailing wage for this occupation and worksite, a base salary of $180,294 would place this position at wage Level II. That figure is within the posted range, and I'd like to target it. This role classifies under "Computer Hardware Engineers" for prevailing-wage purposes.
DOL prevailing wage, 2026-27 wage year · Computer Hardware Engineers (17-2061) · San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA. Wage level is derived by USCIS from the offered wage, occupation and worksite; the occupation shown is inferred from the job title.

About the role
- Your work will vary widely, and your success is measured by how much faster Etched moves, not by the lines of code you write.
- The problems we solve are time-sensitive and business-critical.
- This role will not be a 9-5, and the ideal candidate is excited about that.
Responsibilities
- Embed with our hardware team to find the highest-leverage bottlenecks, and own each one from first idea to a tool engineers rely on every day.
- Build and deploy LLM agents wired into our engineering workflows via tool-calling and MCP.
- Measure what works. Design evals and track adoption so we double down on the tools that matter and kill the ones that don't.
- Ship full-stack internal products from zero to one: the interfaces, data pipelines, and infrastructure that define how Etched builds.
- Etched is building hardware for frontier intelligence.
- We co-design chips, racks, software, and manufacturing to deliver best-in-class throughput and latency across both prefill and decode workloads.
- Our Internal Acceleration team's mandate is to build agents to accelerate the production of frontier tokens.
- Relocation support for those moving to San Jose (Santana Row)
Nice to have
- Have at least 1-5+ years of experience building and shipping software end to end, ideally at a fast-moving startup
Skills
- Have strong full-stack skills. We care less about whether you write every line yourself and more about whether what you ship works
- Use AI to ramp fast on unfamiliar domains. Agentic coding tools and frontier models are how you work, not an add-on
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision packages with generous premium coverage
- $500 per month credit for waiving medical benefits
- Various wellness benefits covering fitness, mental health, and more
- Plus Significant Equity
