About the role
- This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on execution.
- You will work directly with Product Owners, Engineers, and Solution Architects to translate complex technical concepts into clear, usable documentation that improves the customer experience.
- This role is ideal for a writer who thrives in highly technical environments, understands the insurance industry, solutioning and developer workflows, and takes pride in producing precise, structured documentation.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Insurance Product Owner and Solutions team to document vertical-specific features, data models, and integration patterns unique to the insurance space.
- Read, interpret, and validate OpenAPI specifications (.yaml /.json).
- Partner with engineering teams to document new software features, API endpoints, data models, and error handling.
- Own documentation quality, clarity, accuracy, and usability.
- Contribute to documentation architecture, organization, and navigation to support a strong developer experience.

Requirements
- At least 5 years of technical writing experience focused on software or technical platforms.
- Bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Journalism, or Computer Science
- Proven experience documenting InsurTech or insurance-adjacent SaaS products in a regulated industry
- Experience writing API and developer documentation for SaaS, platform, or enterprise software products.
- Strong understanding of the OpenAPI Specification.
- Proficiency with Docs-as-Code workflows.
- Hands-on experience with GitHub/GitLab or Gitbooks.
- Advanced working knowledge of Markdown.
- Strong information architecture skills with the ability to structure complex documentation.
- Experience working within Agile product teams.
Nice to have
- Experience documenting HealthTech or FinTech SaaS products in a regulated industry
- Familiarity with AI-driven or ML-powered SaaS products, including comfort documenting agentic workflows, model outputs, or AI-assisted process automation.
- Familiarity with documentation platforms beyond GitBook.
- UX/UI Writing experience.
- Background working in high-growth SaaS
- Candidates must reside in the New York Tri- State area.
- Has enough insurance or regulated-industry fluency to ask the right questions when documenting complex workflows like agent contracting or commissions hierarchies.
- Thrives in fast-paced environments and doesn't shy away from a challenge
Compensation
- $125,000 - $166,000 USD
- The base salary range for this position is $125,000-$145,000.
- OTE - $143,000k- $166,000k
