About the role
- This position operates within an Indigenous-led and Indigenous-governed organization that is accountable to the communities it serves.
- Work is grounded in the principle of Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands, ensuring that all programs and services are developed, delivered, and evaluated under Indigenous governance structures and community direction.
- This position is being posted in response to an existing vacancy at the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle.
Requirements
- Member in good standing and without restrictions, College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse in Extended Class [RN(EC)] required.
- Experience working within an EMR and an electronic office work environment.
- Experience working with Indigenous patients and communities.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and protocols and willingness to work in community settings.
- Ability to work well under pressure and multi-task without supervision.
- Ability to travel to multiple sites, and a willingness to outreach and engage with Indigenous communities.
- Regular travel to meetings and communities is required
- access to a personal vehicle is required.
- Reliable Vehicle - Regional Travel Required.
- Regular overtime work may be required from time to time.
- Member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and/or the Nurse Practitioners Association of Ontario.
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing from a recognized University and Certificate as a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner.
- Experience working as an NP in a primary health care or community setting an asset.
- Demonstrate commitment to learning and integrating land-based healing and cultural approaches to wellness into patient care through connection to services and referrals to traditional healers and cultural health professionals.
- Understanding and knowledge of a trauma-informed approach to health care.
- Familiarity with the use of OTN - assisting patients with referrals to specialists, traditional healers and allied health professionals.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with regulated health professionals and maintain a positive team environment.
Nice to have
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Program preferred.
