- ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible (Certification must be obtained within one year of employment).

- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology.

- They should be able to aid in instrument repair.
- They should be able to identify abnormal or discrepant results.
- They will have limited participation in student teaching and assisting of other personnel rotating through the section.
- They will have limited administrative duties.
