Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and assigned activities in the Fire Academy Program.
  • Assists instructors during scheduled skills labs, live fire training support, and practical evaluations.
  • Supports check-in/check-out processes for fire gear, tools, SCBAs, and College-owned vehicles; reports violations or safety concerns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Must maintain authorization to drive College-owned vehicles.

Requirements

  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  • Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  • Operates and conducts routine preventive maintenance on College vehicles; notifies appropriate personnel of any vehicle maintenance required.
  • College Certificate, a minimum of 30 college hours required.
  • Must be insurable under South Texas College's insurance policy for driving.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be insurable under South Texas College's insurance policy for driving.
  • Successful completion of the Basic Structural Fire Fighter Course required.
