Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Community Services Team Lead.
  • Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
  • Building on our roots as a world-wide Christian church, each year we help more than 2 million people, providing necessities such as food, clothing and shelter.
  • In addition, we support people experiencing unemployment, addiction and family challenges.
  • Working environment is typically in the corps building in generally agreeable conditions and outdoors in all weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) and Driver's Abstract is required for this position with results being satisfactory to the salvation army in their sole discretion.
  • Experience and Knowledge:
  • The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.
  • Some work over weekends and evenings may be required.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary program of two academic years
  • An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • CPR, First Aid and Non-Violent Crisis Training or willingness to complete once hired.

Skills

  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Comfortable using and maintaining a digital database
  • Knowledge and skill in social media platforms and management
  • Experience in event planning
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
  • Exhibit good listening and interpersonal skills, have strong oral/written communication skills.

Compensation

  • Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
  • Little input to annual budget or revenue projections.

  • For more than 130 years, The Salvation Army has served people in need in communities across Canada and Bermuda.
  • The role will provide general support to various services in the Community and Family Services setting of a Ministry Unit.
  • The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
  • Seasonal Projects such as Kettles, Christmas Hampers, backpacks, feeding programs etc.
  • Work both independently and in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
  • Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns.
  • Maintain strict confidentially of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
  • Provide supervision and support to children and youth during various programs.
  • May assist with different basic administrative tasks - photocopy activities, greeting visitors, supporting reception, processing donations, etc. as required.
  • Maintain a log of different activities including reporting stats.
  • Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the work areas.
  • Assist with the MU/facility general clean up and set up for different activities.
  • Provide general information to visitors.
  • Collaborate with Community Ministries Coordinator to ensure effective program delivery
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
