About the role

  • This position is available to begin in Fall 2026 for the main campus in Frostburg, Maryland.
  • Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences is situated in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will teach introductory physics courses/labs and upper-level courses/labs depending on their area of specialization and will have the potential to develop courses in their area of expertise.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Physics.
  • The candidate should have an effective teaching style, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work cordially and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • The Department administers undergraduate degree programs in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Geography, Earth Sciences, and Environmental Sciences.

Nice to have

  • Teaching experience in physics and physical science courses at a university or college.
  • Experience in mentoring diverse undergraduate students with varying levels of academic preparation.
  • Experience in mentoring undergraduate research students.
  • More than 4,000 students enroll yearly.
  • About the Area: FSU is located on a scenic 260-acre campus in the mountains of Western Maryland, a region rich in history, quaint shopping areas and eclectic cafes and food choices.
