About the role
- DynaTen, a Comfort Systems USA Company, is seeking a Startup Technician II to join our Startup team.
- This position is responsible for performing routine startup, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation activities for commercial mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and control systems.
- 4 to 6 years of direct startup, commissioning, service, construction, installation, or related field experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform startup activities for commercial HVAC and mechanical equipment with limited supervision.
- Perform operational testing and assist with functional performance verification.
- Document startup results, deficiencies, corrective actions, and follow-up items clearly and accurately.
- Communicate startup status, concerns, and deficiencies to project teams, trade partners, and internal leadership.
- Support warranty-related troubleshooting when needed.
- Continue developing knowledge of HVAC systems, control systems, equipment operation, and commissioning practices.
Requirements
- 4 to 6 years of related field experience.
- Ability to identify and communicate common installation, electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues.
- Ability to complete accurate startup documentation.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- EPA certification required or must be obtained after hire.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 required or must be obtained after hire.
- Working knowledge of commercial HVAC and mechanical equipment startup requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot routine issues involving motors, motor controls, pumps, fans, economizers, VFDs, sensors, actuators, and DDC hardware.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, submittals, wiring diagrams, equipment schedules, and sequence of operations.
- Ability to apply manufacturer startup instructions and project-specific startup procedures.
Nice to have
- Commercial HVAC startup, service, commissioning, or controls experience.
- Experience with air handling units, pumps, fans, VFDs, economizers, chilled water systems, DX systems, and evaporative cooling systems.
- Experience with DDC controls, embedded controls, sensors, actuators, and control sequences.
- Experience using Procore, CxAlloy, Microsoft Project, or similar project documentation software.
- Manufacturer training, trade school, TAB exposure, controls training, or commissioning-related training.
- A level II Startup Technician should have a working knowledge of the following, and other, typical equipment and systems:
- Air handling units
- Chilled water systems
