About the role

  • Under general supervision, performs technical work in the field of landscape maintenance, ornamental horticulture, and/or landscape construction.
  • Leads and provides training for landscape maintenance projects.

Responsibilities

  • Performs landscaping activities such as planning and layout of projects, planting and cultivating shrubs, trees, turf and flowers, and pesticide applications.
  • Performs insect and disease identification, soil evaluation, and other evaluative techniques. Determines and takes appropriate remedial action.
  • cleans equipment and performs routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations
  • Ensures the operational safety and readiness of equipment; cleans equipment and performs routine maintenance and repairs.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in horticulture, agronomy or related field.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Employees in this classification will be required to report to work or remain at work during inclement weather and/or other campus events or emergencies.

Skills

  • Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
  • Candidates must have a valid Maryland Non-Commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license.
  • Background checks are conducted on all selected candidates.
  • This position is considered an essential function/employee position.
