About the role
- Ensure staff are trained, qualified, and working safely.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Expertise in scale calibration and instrumentation calibration principles, metrology, and measurement uncertainty.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Calibration & Automation team to maintain critical instrumentation, precision scales, and process equipment controls for safety, compliance, uptime, and business continuity.
- Supervise daily activities, support GMP and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance, and drive continuous improvement.
- Coach, develop, and manage team performance.
- Lead daily huddles, assign priorities, and ensure calibration deadlines are met.
- Support staffing, overtime control, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain Regulatory Compliance Ensure GMP, 21 CFR Part 11, SOP, validation, and data integrity compliance for process equipment controls.
- Support audits and inspections, and manage deviations, CAPAs, and investigations.
- Ensure Maximum Asset Availability and System Reliability Maintain calibration, preventive maintenance, and process equipment control programs.
- Review work plans with maintenance planning and support operator basic care where applicable.
- Track key metrics and implement improvements to availability and reliability.
Requirements
- Personal Protective equipment is required and may include any of the following:
- ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time
- ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time.
- Use of Personal Protective equipment is required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator.
Nice to have
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in instrumentation, automation, calibration, or electrical/equipment maintenance.
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience.
- GMP experience preferred
- pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing experience an asset.
- Experience with change control and contractor/vendor management required.
- Experience with process equipment control modifications is an asset.
Skills
- Expertise in scale calibration and instrumentation calibration principles, metrology, and measurement uncertainty.
- Proficiency with process equipment PLC, HMI, and VFD systems; understanding of industrial automation controls and communication protocols.
- Demonstrated experience with 21 CFR Part 11, validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), CMMS, and documentation control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, P&IDs, loop diagrams, technical drawings, and process equipment control narratives.
- Strong leadership, project management, problem-solving, communication, and safety skills.
Compensation
- Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check Compensation The estimated annualized pay range for this position in Ontario is $76,400.00-$114,575.00.
